In the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, hidden amongst the crumbling walls of Pico’s Portuguese ruin, sits a modern architectural gem. E/C house is a carefully designed holiday home, erected by local architects SAMI Arquitectos with the intention of using the structure to rehabilitate the group of volcanic islands off the far west tip of Portugal over the past decade.
The recently completed two story concrete structure is quaintly nestled within the dark basalt stone walls. Boasting sleek, minimal interiors flooded with natural light, the natural rock formations remain tactile and broody focal points, bringing the outside in. In a perfectly symbiotic relationship with its surrounds, E/C house is the perfect holiday destination, where clean, elegant lines and colossal black rock formations compliment one another through texture and tone.

In order to receive maximum light & outstanding views of the picturesque surroundings. SAMI Architects have ensured all bedrooms & living rooms have boundless windows. The four timber-lined bedrooms with built in storage are spread across the split level ground floor, with the living room & kitchen situated upstairs to maximise the presence of high angled timber ceilings. Working with the sloping landscape the architects designed the holiday home to be built across decks, with each room with in the house encouraging its guests to sit and contemplate.
The E/C House is an enchanting juxtaposition of new & old typology.
